Cathance River Evening Paddle

Kayakers, rowers, and canoeists, it’s time again to strap on your PFD’s and join Friends of Merrymeeting Bay (FOMB)Tuesday, June 15th at 6:30pm for an evening paddle on the Cathance River. Led by Ian Ramsey, this paddle is part of FOMB's Summer Outside 2010 series. The Cathance River promises a host of wildlife including leaping sturgeon, eagles, osprey, owls, and songbirds that reside overhead and beaver and otter that splash along the shore. Deer and great blue herons also frequent the banks of the river as you quietly paddle around dusk.
 
Merrymeeting Bay, at the junction of 6 rivers drains nearly 40% of Maine and is recognized as an internationally significant resource for its migratory waterfowl, anadromous fish populations including sturgeon and salmon, as well as its bald eagles and rare plants. Friends of Merrymeeting Bay works to protect and improve the Bay through land protection, education, research and advocacy.
 
Participants will meet at the Cathance River boat landing, located at the Philip Mailly Park in Bowdoinham, and depart at 6:30pm. Pre-registration with trip leader Ian Ramsey at 751-7569 is required.
