Nature is a relatively recent choice as a source of inspiration, a reflection of changing attitudes to the natural world. Nature in the Garden will be a lively dialogue discussing the myriad ways in which nature has influenced contemporary garden and landscape design - the use of natives or plants with wild character, nature-inspired planting patterns, and the effect these trends have on the ecology of the garden and the region at large. These influences are part of a continuum including the vision of human artistic imagination. As a whole, it is a modern gardening/landscape movement known as "naturalistic planting design". Many plants used in naturalistic planting design will be seen first hand as attendees discuss and observe their way through a tour of the nursery Campo di Fiori, in Bowdoinham.

Fiori is a student of all things natural and holds a degree in Resource Management from Sterling College in VT. He has a background in field ecology, natural history, forestry, sustainable agriculture, and systems dynamics. Campo di Fiori is a small, diversified nursery/farm in Bowdoinham on which Fiori field grows ornamental plants for sale at farmer’s markets and landscape design installations.  A portion of the land cultivated is conservation land which, through cooperative efforts with his grandfather, is now preserved in perpetuity through an agricultural easement.
