Mushroom Walk

On Sunday September 26th at 2pm join Friends of Merrymeeting Bay [FOMB] for the last FOMB outing of 2010. Michaeline Mulvey, an experienced local mycologist, will lead a mushroom walk at the head of tide on the Abagadasset River in Bowdoinham. This property, located on the Carding Machine Road, was protected by FOMB and is now owned by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The event will be held rain or shine, so please dress appropriately. Participants should bring a basket, paper or bags or waxed paper, and a knife. Folks are welcome to bring any mushrooms from home for show and tell or for help with identification. Participants must pre-register for this event with Misty Gorski at 737-8508 or fomb@suscom-maine.net.
Directions: From Route 24 in Bowdoinham turn onto the Carding Machine Road. About 1.9 miles down the road you will see a yellow gate on the right.
Merrymeeting Bay, at the junction of 6 rivers drains, nearly 40% of Maine and is recognized as an internationally significant resource for its migratory waterfowl, diadromous fish populations including sturgeon and salmon, as well as its bald eagles and rare plants. Friends of Merrymeeting Bay works to protect and improve the Bay through land protection, education, research and advocacy.
Join FOMB in Kresge Auditorium at the Bowdoin College Visual Arts Center on October 13 at 7 pm for the start of the annual FOMB Speaker Series. This will be the 14th year of the series and will begin with a presentation by well-known glaciologist, explorer and author: Paul Mayewski, Director of the University of Maine Climate Change Institute, entitled: Climate Change: Perspective and Realities, Surprises and Opportunities. This presentation is cosponsored by the Bowdoin College Environmental and Arctic Studies departments. The entire series is supported by Patagonia Outlet in Freeport. |
